Band 3: £24,071 to £25,674 a year pro rata  PERMANENT 

  • The Dietetic Support Worker will work alongside Specialist Dietitians to deliver support to individuals in hospital or the community.
  • The post-holder will be trained to assist the dietitian to deliver and review basic dietary advice and weight monitoring to patients and/or carers.
  • The post holder will enter information onto enteral feed databases such as nutrition company databases and patient registration systems.
  • The post holder will assist in the organisation and management of resources such as patient information leaflets and nutrition products.
  • The post holder will facilitate training around nutrition screening and dietary strategies and collate data in relation to dietary intervention outcomes.
  • The post holder will support with health promotion activities/national campaigns related to nutrition.
  • The post holder will assist with the mentoring and supervision of student dietitians.

Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate.The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has an interest in nutrition and dietetics who would enjoy the challenge of working as a Dietetic Support Worker within our friendly Paediatric Dietetic Team. The post holder will provide clinical and administrative support to the Dietetic Department and assist the Dietitians at ward and clinical level.

Dietetic Support Workers provide a range of roles to support the Paediatric Dietitians working in specialist areas of Dietetics. This role involves contact with patients (mostly children under the care of the oncology service), whilst they are in hospital or at home via telephone.

Applicants will require excellent written and verbal communication skills and will be required to liaise with a range of individuals and groups including patients and their families/carers, other healthcare professionals within the acute and community settings and nutrition company representatives. An interest in food and nutrition is also desirable.

Good organisation and keyboard skills are essential as the role also includes the management of stock (nutritional products, equipment and printed materials), database entry and assisting the dietitians at clinics and with presentations & displays.
