At Royal Derby Hospital there are:
- 2 inpatient ward areas looking after children and young people up to the age of 18
- A dedicated planned admissions area caring for both medical and surgical day care patients
- Paediatric critical care unit with 4 spaces
- Children's outpatient department
- Children's Emergency Department which saw over 40,000 attendances last year
- A paediatric psychology service encompassing a positive behaviour team
- Specialist nurse services both inpatient and community based
- 36 cot local neonatal unit
- With future plans for later this year for the opening of a transitional care unit
Queens Hospital Burton has:
- Paediatric assessment unit which saw over 3,000 attendance last year
- 1 inpatient ward area of 8 beds which also supports the elective activity through this area
- An in reach service for paediatrics attendances within the Emergency department
- An outpatient service
- 8 cot special care baby unit
- With future plans for later this year for the opening of a transitional care unit
Samuel Johnson Community Hospital is currently does not provide intrapartum care but runs as a community midwifery hub.
Where we are now:
We hold a CQC Good rating (from 2and we are focused on making progress in achieving compliance with the immediate and essential actions from Ockenden recommendations, as well as implementing valuable learning from recent external reviews and reports into the service.
We want to:
- Be fully compliant against all national safety measures.
- Embed recommended changes from recent reviews of our service.
- Make sure we communicate well with families, so that every woman feels properly listened to and that we act on their feedback.
- Create the best possible environment at work for our teams to do their job.
- Do the things we have said we will do, including how we make sure we have learned and made changes when something has not gone well.

This role offers an opportunity for an exceptional candidate to join the paediatrics business unit as General Manager.
You will lead and inspire our teams to provide high quality care across all of our services on both acute sites and community sites.
This is a senior operational role with a wide-ranging portfolio across urgent and planned care with a strong emphasis on improvement and efficiency.
Successful candidates will need to have demonstrable senior leadership experience in the acute sector with a proven ability to collaborate with, motivate and lead clinical and non-clinical teamsin the achievement of key performance indicators and will possess excellent communication skills with a proven track record of delivery in a complex environment.
Informal visit / conversations are welcomed.
The General Manager will be responsible for supporting the Divisional Director in directing, guiding, and leading the business unit management team in the overall management of the business unit and for developing strategic plans and performance management frameworks to ensure delivery of all key activity and financial targets.
A key dimension will be to support the Divisional Director in the engagement of clinical managers in the complex management agenda and the development of capacity and capability to deliver both local and national priorities working collaboratively with system partners.
