The Head Orthoptist position at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in Wrexham involves overseeing the daily management and delivery of Orthoptic services. The role requires strategic planning and the implementation of quality-driven services in alignment with departmental objectives. Responsibilities include line management of the AHP team, which comprises orthoptists and optometrists, as well as handling administrative tasks such as managing staff absences, conducting appraisals, and facilitating training programs. The Head Orthoptist will also provide comprehensive clinical care, including the assessment and treatment of various visual disorders.

In addition to clinical duties, the Head Orthoptist will play a key managerial role, addressing staff concerns and leading meetings while participating in extended roles within ophthalmology. The role is suitable for autonomous practitioners familiar with treating conditions such as amblyopia and ocular motility disorders. Proficiency in Welsh is desirable but not mandatory, with both English and Welsh speakers encouraged to apply.
