Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week (10 sessions per week with on call)


Perm/Fixed Term: Fixed term: 12 months (with on call)

George Eliot NHS Trust wishes to appoint a Senior Specialist for Urology, to be based at the George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton. The Urology Department is made up of 4.7 Consultants, Middle Grade Doctors, and a supporting team of 3.5 Clinical Nurse Specialists.

George Eliot has a state of the art and widely regarded endoscopy unit. We have state of the art laser equipment - a 120 W and a 70 W laser. The 120 W laser is used for elective work, whilst the 70 W laser is used for emergency stone surgery. We have a visiting ESWL service. This is great opportunity to play a part in expanding a department which is close knit and on a single site. Special interests will be supported subject to agreement.

The successful candidate will be a urological surgeon with an interest in General Urology. This post will provide a comprehensive general urology outpatient, inpatient and diagnostic and day case surgery service for urology patients. Those who are skilled in the surgical management of BPH and other core urology work would be particularly welcomed.

Themain role will be to cover the elective theatres and clinics of consultants at an independent level and conduct procedures in Urology Diagnostic and treatment centre supported by the CNS team and Registrars

It is to be noted that some of these like robotics are not yet in place, but a business case is in motion and expected that robotic urology will form part of the service offering in the future. This may be at GEH site or within the regional urology area networks. Examples of possibilities include:

1. Diagnostics and oncological surgery which includes renal robotic surgery and MRI -TRUS fusion prostate biopsy service.

2. Functional Urology including Urodynamics and Botox

3. Clinical Informatics / Digital Health

4. Day Case Holmium Laser / REZUM / UroLIFT service
