The role of Locum Consultant in General Surgery at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Orpington involves providing high-quality clinical service and support within the surgical department, with specific duties in Acute Surgical Assessment Units (SAAU) and on-call commitments to manage waiting lists. Candidates are expected to have experience in General Surgery, with additional training in specialties such as Colorectal, Upper GI, or Breast surgery being advantageous. The position encompasses approximately 9 Programmed Activities focused on Direct Clinical Care, alongside responsibilities for teaching, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to departmental research and audit programs.

In this fixed-term role, the appointee will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team to enhance patient care, maintain clinical operations, and provide leadership within the specialty. The successful candidate will share the responsibility for 24/7 patient cover, engage in continual medical education, and assist in the development and execution of the Trust's business and service plans. Compliance with Trust policies, including infection prevention and control, and a commitment to maintaining a positive working environment for staff are also critical aspects of this position.
