The Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is hiring part-time Medical Examiners (MEs) in Manchester, following recommendations from the Department of Health and Social Care. MEs will act as independent reviewers of patient deaths, ensuring proper death certification processes and appropriate referrals to the coroner. Key responsibilities include reviewing Medical Certificates of Cause of Death (MCCDs), liaising with bereaved families, and maintaining adherence to relevant legislation regarding death investigations.

Candidates must be registered medical practitioners with at least five years of experience, preferably in consultant or experienced GP roles. The role involves working approximately 8 to 9 weeks annually on a rota, including occasional weekend cover (handled infrequently).

MEs are expected to maintain current medical knowledge, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to analyzing death trends for safety and quality improvements.
