Staff Nurse - Acute Medical Unit
The Acute Medical Unit provides emergency medical care for patients who are requiring admission under the expert care of our admitting emergency medical physicians within our trust. Medical Admissions is a 53 bedded unit that cares for a range of acutely ill patients requiring medical investigations and treatment in a fast-paced environment, with a turnover of 30-40 patients a day. We have a commitment to ensuring that every patients experience on admission is of the highest quality. We require nurses who are energetic, forward thinking, flexible, self-motivated and who have care, compassion and courage at the core of their nursing vision. We provide our patients with a true multi-disciplined team that can support our patients in their health needs with our own ward based therapy team.
You must be able to work as part of team and autonomously when required, and be committed to delivering care of a high standard. We work closely with our colleagues in the Emergency Department and on The Same Day Medical Assessment Unit.
It is not essential to have worked within emergency medicine to apply for this position as we would welcome all Registered Nurses as we are committed to going the extra mile for you, as you would for our patients. To provide the highest standard of evidence based / research informed nursing care for all patients
To plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care
To supervise and support members of the ward team to ensure that all patients receive the appropriate care
To maintain a compassionate, caring and safe environment for all
To act as an advocate for the patients and their families and or carers, providing them with information and support and directing them to the relevant support services where appropriate.
To plan effective discharge from admission, liaising with the multidisciplinary team, other departments and community services as necessary.
To develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide research informed, evidence based nursing care. This includes expanded role responsibilities, following appropriate competency based training.
To be competent and compliant in the administration of medicines in line with Trust policy
To use electronic patient systems i.e. PAS in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.
