The role of Smokefree Pregnancy Practitioner at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust involves delivering evidence-based behavioral support and treatment to pregnant women who are tobacco dependent. Working alongside the Lead Midwife for Treating Tobacco Dependence and other maternity team members, the practitioner will provide interventions such as Carbon Monoxide monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy. The position includes educating patients about the risks of smoking during pregnancy, developing personalized treatment plans, and promoting smoke-free environments while addressing health inequalities stemming from tobacco addiction.

The practitioner will work flexibly across various clinical settings, conducting ward rounds to identify patients needing tobacco dependency treatment and ensuring the effective monitoring of progress. They will also engage with healthcare professionals to promote the service, maintain confidentiality, and utilize motivational skills to support behavior changes in patients. Additionally, the role involves contributing to service development, promoting family-centered care, and participating in awareness campaigns related to smoking cessation.
