An exciting opportunity has arisen within Breast Screening for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly, professional team.

This post offers the opportunity to work in a challenging and changing environment while gaining wide experience across all breast imaging services.

This post is for 22.5 hours per week. The opening hours for the Department are Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00.


Evidence of qualifications will be required at interview and during the onboarding process.

The post holder will form part of the WWL Breast Imaging team including the South Lancashire Breast Screening Programme, the Symptomatic Breast Service and the Family History Service.

The post holder will provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the administrative team and associated health professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities Key results from the job holder

  • Responsible for reception of patients for radiological procedures.
  • Provide administrative support including the use of patient appointment systems.
  • Co-operate with all disciplines when receiving telephone, fax, and all other requests including enquires from patients.
  • Operate relevant Trust IT systems, inputting and maintaining patient information and updating patient records.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining correct input of data.
  • Assist in monitoring data quality within Radiology IT systems, ensuring consistency, accuracy and timeliness of data.
  • Maintain patient records to the standards expected by the Directorate/Trust.
  • Monitoring of stationary/clinical stock levels within the department and requesting supplies where appropriate.
  • Be accountable for own actions.
  • Plan and prioritise own workload to meet service demands.
  • Seek advice for those duties/tasks which go beyond prescribed schemes of work.
  • Planning and Organisational Duties
  • Liaise with referrers, patients and carers, answering queries and arranging appointments.
  • Arranging follow up/recall appointments as/when instructed.
  • Retrieval of case notes and previous images where required, prior to patient attendance.
  • Sorting incoming mail, dealing with outgoing mail including images.
  • Maintain workflow of departmental records and file accordingly.
  • Support the Department and Service as dictated by the Directorate and the Trust.
  • Identify errors in administration and resolve them within a set time-frame seeking advice where necessary.
  • Communications and Key Working Relationships
  • Acquire information from patients to confirm identity, previous attendance and any other details required by the department.
  • Answer telephone enquiries from multiple sources, taking messages as required.
  • Communicate effectively with patients possessing various emotional, physical and mental issues.
  • Liaise with porters regarding the transit of patients and arranging necessary transport.
  • Liaise with Trust wards, other departments and medical staff regarding in-patient and out-patient examinations.
  • Communicate with internal and external sources, both clinical and non-clinical eg Patients, Clinicians, Trust staff, Directorate staff, Solicitors regarding the continuity of patient care and treatment.

Responsibility for Finance

  • Ensure the efficient and cost effective use of resources within the departmental offices.
  • Responsibility for Human Resources
  • Comply with Trust Policies and procedures including Code of Conduct and Data Protectiion.
  • Comply with mandatory training requirements in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Maintain a portfolio of competencies showing evidence of lifelong learning.
  • Actively participate in appraisal and supervision systems.
  • Responsibility for Health & Safety
  • Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
  • Responsibility for Teaching
  • Assist in the induction of new staff sharing knowledge/experience of work practices.
  • Physical effort required to rotate and store appropriately, new supplies of stock and to transfer history/image folders within the department and externally throughout the working day on a daily basis.
  • Multi-site working may be required. The post will may occasionally require travel to Mobile Unit sit
