An exciting part-time vacancy has become available to cover maternity leave which involves working within extended roles including the medical retina, injection, eye casualty, post-cataract and contact lens clinics at Whipps Cross/Newham sites. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Optometrist to join our teams in an interesting range of core and extended role clinics. There is a research session as part of this job role.

The post-holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Optometry and Ophthalmology teams that provide comprehensive and quality ophthalmology services for the Trust.

You will be based in the Eye Treatment Centre at Whipps Cross University Hospital with some potential sessions that may be based at Newham General University Hospital.

Preferred working days would be Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays but there may be some flexibility.The Eye Treatment Centre is a dedicated unit covering all ophthalmology specialties including vitreo-retinal, medical retina, glaucoma, cornea, oculo-plastics, paediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology and we also have a busy eye emergency service.

You will participate in the educational activities run by and for the Optical Services and Ophthalmology Departments.

This includes the teaching of other health care professionals, medical undergraduates and junior doctors.

To participate in the delivery of the optical services and ophthalmology services

To participate in extended role clinics e.g. medical retina, injection, oculo-plastics, cataract, glaucoma and emergency eye services

To participate in core optometry clinics e.g. paeds and adult refraction, low vision and contact lens clinics

  • To participate in the delivery of highly specialist ophthalmic services and extended roles that meet the changing needs of the department
  • To participate in research and clinical audit as required by the WXUH Ophthalmology service
  • The post-holder will be required to work autonomously and make clinical decisions using his/her own initiative as well as liaising with the Supervising Consultant Ophthalmologist/s
