Sandpiper is an 18 bedded acute mental health ward providing assessment and treatment for adults who require support in crisis. We believe care and treatment for mental health comes in a variety of forms ranging from medication, psychological input and therapeutic activities and we promote a holistic approach on the ward utilising a wide range of mental health professionals.
If you don't already have a Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant subject, RDaSH are offering this post alongside the opportunity for you to complete a Level 2apprenticeship qualification [relevant to your role].
As an apprentice within RDaSH you will be given the opportunity to gain experience, learn work-related skills and obtain all the tools needed to thrive.
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Around 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying. This leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
Whether you already work for us or are joining the Trust and NHS for the first time, apprenticeships can help you to develop the skills, knowledge and know-how in order to embark on a successful and fulfilling career within the health service.
It is a fast paced environment that enables successful recovery for individuals. We look to work and liaise with other professionals to support discharge.
The ward provides 24hrs a day 7 days a week healthcare cover and so the position involves shift work comprising of a mixture of early, late and night shifts.
It is vital that our patient's receive high quality care, ensuring their needs are being met and that their stay on the ward is a positive experience. We provide full training for all aspects of the role including immediate life support, prevention and management of violence and aggression, moving and handling, record keeping and infection control.
Escorting patients on leave to local areas, appointments or recovery focused tasks.
Always maintaining patient dignity and promoting patient independence. Allowing for individual expression emotionally and of their personality and acting as a chaperone when required.
Observing patients and reporting to Registered Nurses verbally and in writing on our clinical system, system1.
Providing one to one enhanced support to individuals.
Carrying out simple nursing procedures as instructed at the discretion of Registered Nurses, reporting on and recording findings, (e.g. blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration rate, maintaining fluid balance charts, diet charts, testing urine, weighing patients). Physical health is of high importance to us within trust.
