South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint six Specialty Doctors (SHO) for a fixed-term position in the Emergency Department, starting from February 5, 2025, to February 4, 2026. The role requires candidates with an MB BS or equivalent qualification, GMC registration, and at least one year of experience at the Foundation Year 1 level. The successful candidates will be part of a collaborative team of five consultants, six middle-grade doctors, and fifteen junior doctors, providing comprehensive acute care to a population of approximately 155,000 in South Tyneside.

The position involves rotating duties within the Emergency Department, including patient admissions and clinical attendance as per the rota, while also managing emergencies when required. The Trust seeks enthusiastic and dedicated team players, and interested applicants are encouraged to reach out for an informal discussion about the role with the Lead Consultant.

You will join a team of 5 Consultants, 6 middle grade doctors, 15 Junior Doctors (FY2, GPVTS trainees & Trust SHOs). With the dedicated nursing teams, we provide comprehensive acute services to a population of around 155,000.

Rotating duties in the Emergency Department, liaising with colleagues in other specialties in admission of patients.

Clinical attendance in the department is according to the rota.

A Junior Doctor accepts that he/she will also perform duties in occasional Emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant in consultation, where practicable, with his/her colleagues both Senior and Junior.

It has been agreed between the professions and the Department, that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State Stresses that additional commitments arising under the subsection are exceptional and that the juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
