The role of "CNS-Colorectal/Lower GI" at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust in Worthing involves providing specialized support and care for patients with Lower GI cancer and related conditions, throughout their treatment journey. The post holder will act as a key worker, ensuring continuity of care, conducting holistic needs assessments, and developing individualized care plans tailored to patients' physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs. Responsibilities include educating patients and families, coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams, managing symptoms, and contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Additionally, the role emphasises emotional and psychological support for patients and families, advocating for patient needs, and providing end-of-life care when necessary. The CNS will serve as a resource for healthcare staff across the Trust and will engage in research and professional development to maintain best practices in Lower GI care. This important position aligns with the ongoing transition of Elective Colorectal & Lower GI Cancer Surgery services to enhance patient outcomes and establish a center of excellence in the field.
