Practice Nurse with Hawthorns Medical Centre in Birmingham
We are looking for a positive, vibrant Practice Nurse who would like to join our friendly team for 3 to 4 days per week. We are a multi-disciplinary practice with GPs, Pharmacists, HCAs, Physiotherapists, Paramedics and more. To be enthusiastic and willing to join a forward-thinking General Practice team. Be able to take part in chronic disease management, vaccinations and immunisations, cervical screening, contraceptive reviews and wound care. To provide support to healthcare assistants and will direct their work to ensure that the Practice provides high quality care. You will take part in overseeing infection control standards and cold chain compliancy. About us Participate in an annual appraisal Actively participate in clinical and practice meetings Develops clinical protocols for the surgery and the team. Clinical duties Provide Chronic disease management for Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, and CHD/CVD Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness Administer adult and paediatric injections Provide adult and child immunisations ensuring full achievement of targets Ensure safe storage, rotation, and disposal of vaccines and drugs Undertake electrocardiography Undertake wound care/ management / dressing techniques Undertake leg ulcer management, dopplers and compression bandaging Provide advice on lifestyle issues, assisting and supporting patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately Deliver travel health care, including vaccinations and advice for patients Recognise the signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviours, suicidal tendencies, and be aware of local, referral procedures Work with safeguarding teams where relevant Ensure that current evidence-based approaches to patient care are standard practice Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling of laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluids spillages and report and treat sharps injuries Undertake first aid and management of emergencies, e.g. burns, haemorrhages, hypo/hyperglycaemic emergencies/asthma attacks Audit outcomes of care against standards and initiate change as necessary ensuring follow-up audit cycle
