The Consultant Psychiatrist for the Wigan Mental Health Liaison Team at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHSFT will provide 24-hour emergency mental health assessments at the Royal Albert Infirmary, focusing on service users visiting A&E or admitted to medical wards. The role involves short-term management of complex mental health presentations, including risk assessment and intervention, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external partners. The psychiatrist will also serve as the Responsible Clinician (RC) for patients on section 17 leave and will take an active part in developing clinical priorities and engaging in service transformation initiatives.

In addition to clinical duties, the position includes an educational component, where the psychiatrist will supervise medical trainees and contribute to the training of psychiatric students. The role emphasises leadership in clinical decision-making and fostering a collaborative care model that bridges primary and specialist mental health services, ensuring high-quality care aligned with national standards.
