In addition to daily operational management, the Head of Nursing will provide guidance and supervision to junior medical and nursing staff, engage actively with frontline employees, and contribute to the strategic objectives of the division. The role demands collaboration with various stakeholders, including ADO, Specialty Leads, and General Managers, to ensure that GS-ACT services meet the required quality, performance, and financial parameters set by the Trust Board. The position involves not only clinical oversight but also a commitment to continuous improvement, patient safety, and the overall quality agenda within the division.
We are excited to be recruiting to our Head of Nursing post we are looking for an effective leader with proven delivery experience in a fast paced environment who will approach this interesting and varied position with energy and enthusiasm.
The post holder will be the senior nurse in GS-ACT who will be responsible supporting the Divisional Chief Nurse in providing both expert leadership and clinical care.
The division brings together the functions of Trust wide Theatres, Anaesthetic & Critical Care teams whilst also having a portfolio of General Surgery and Urology Clinical specialities.
The post holder will ensure that all care delivered within their area of responsibility adheres to the CQC essential standards, adheres to legislation, follows the organisations policies and procedures and is measured and monitored to ensure it is reliable and of a consistently high standard.
The post holder will provide professional leadership and development to Matrons, Advance Clinical Practitioners, Ward Managers and Specialist Nurses; lead on development of nursing/ clinical practice across the surgical care pathway and wider Health Group, with a particular emphasis on the safety of patients and the quality of care which they receive. The post-holder will deputise for the DCN to ensure compliance and delivery of the Quality and Safety and professional agenda.
To Support the DCN for leading developments within the Division that will improve patient safety, the patient experience and delivery of the quality agenda.o Responsible for ensuring effective nursing input into the Surgical Wards/ESAC & Urology on an operational day to day basis.o Responsible for the direct line management of defined Specialist Nurses.o Ensure that the principles of patient safety, clinical effectiveness and cost effectiveness are reflected in all standards and practices across the Division.o Act as a senior nurse giving advice, guidance and supervision to junior doctors and nursing staff in their own development to continually enhance service delivery.o To support on local development and implementation of guidelines and policies.o Ensure visibility of the role in the clinical areas through patient safety walk rounds and engagement with frontline staff reviewing quality indicators / performance.o To provide the DCN with reliable and expert advice and practical support as a member of the senior leadership team.o Work collaboratively with the ADO, Specialty Leads, Consultants, Operational leads and General Managers to lead an effective and efficient service.o Ensure GS-ACT services are delivered within the agreed quality, performance and financial parameters agreed by Trust Board.o Co-ordinate and manage service developments on behalf of the GS-ACT division in association with other senior managers ensuring effective networking and partnership building.
