Band 6: £37,338 to £44,962 a year per annum, pro rata  PERMANENT  GOOD SALARY 

To provide a high quality and effective respiratory lung function service that provides robust technical reports and interpretation.



Responsible for the monitoring and performance of calibration and quality control procedures for all equipment.

Responsible for working within a clinical governance framework in delivery of care.


1.
To be responsible for the daily operation of the lung function laboratory in accordance with clinical governance and waiting time requirements. This includes accurately recording all activity in a timely fashion, and ensuring that results are uploaded onto the electronic patient record.


2.
To perform and interpret the following respiratory investigations in accordance with ARTP/BTS guidelines.



Spirometry and flow volume loops

Reversibility studies

Measurement of static lung volumes (via helium dilution and body plethysmography)

Single breath gas transfer

Field exercise tests

Hypoxic challenge tests

Respiratory muscle assessments- SNIP, MIP, MEP

Capillary blood gas measurements

Overnight oximetry

Fractional exhaled nitric oxide measurements



3. To keep up to date with best practice in lung function testing and update protocols and SOPs as required.

4. The department comprises of two band 7 senior physiologists who are based at the Conquest Hospital and at Eastbourne DGH respectively supported by dedicated administration staff. We are currently in the process of recruiting a junior respiratory physiologist (Band 5). The post holder would be jointly responsible for their supervision, working together with our Senior Physiologists.
