The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is seeking both full-time and part-time Medical Examiner Officers to join the newly established Medical Examiner Service in Truro. This service, which became statutory in September 2024, is responsible for providing independent scrutiny of deaths not investigated by a coroner. The Medical Examiner Officers will offer essential administrative support to Medical Examiners, facilitating communication with bereaved families, healthcare professionals, and medical registrations services.

Candidates will be involved in examining patient records to ascertain the circumstances and causes of death, as well as identifying cases for potential referral to coroners. They will also act as intermediaries between the bereaved and clinicians to address any concerns regarding patient deaths and will need to uphold sensitivity towards the diverse needs of all users of the Medical Examiner system. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, and successful candidates must meet NHS employment requirements, including identity and professional checks.
