We are looking for an experienced Female Complex Healthcare Assistant to provide specialist one-to-one care for a male service user with a spinal cord injury. This role involves medication administration, tracheostomy and ventilation care, bowel management, autonomic dysreflexia management, and mobility support.
Initially, care will be provided during day shifts at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, but upon the service user's discharge, carers must be able to travel to Bedford and work 12-hour day and night shifts. One-to-One Complex Care Provide specialist care tailored to the service users needs, ensuring their comfort and well-being.Medication Administration Safely administer prescribed medications in line with care plans.Tracheostomy & Ventilation Care Monitor and maintain tracheostomy tubes and ventilation equipment, ensuring respiratory support is managed effectively.Bowel Management Assist with bowel care procedures, ensuring hygiene and comfort.Moving, Handling & Repositioning Support with mobility, transfers, and pressure area care using hoists and other mobility aids.Cough Assist & Autonomic Dysreflexia Management Operate cough assist devices and respond promptly to autonomic dysreflexia episodes.Infection Control & Hygiene Maintain high standards of infection prevention, particularly in respiratory and bowel care.Emotional & Social Support Provide companionship and reassurance, promoting independence where possible.Record Keeping Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date documentation of care provided.

About the Role:

Currently, care is being provided during day shifts only at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Upon the service user's discharge, carers must be able to travel to Bedford and be available for both day and night shifts (12-hour shifts: 8 AM - 8 PM & 8 PM - 8 AM).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one complex care tailored to the service user's specific needs.
- Assist with moving and handling, repositioning, and pressure area care.
- Manage medication administration as per care plans.
- Perform bowel management procedures safely and effectively.
- Operate and monitor cough assist devices as needed.
- Recognize and respond to autonomic dysreflexia, ensuring prompt action is taken.
- Provide full tracheostomy and ventilation care, ensuring safety and compliance with protocols.
- Offer emotional and social support, ensuring dignity and well-being.
- Maintain clear and accurate care documentation.
Requirements:
- Must be female (Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2).
- Experience in complex care, particularly with spinal cord injuries.
- Proficiency in medication administration, moving and handling, and repositioning.
- Expertise in bowel management, cough assist, and autonomic dysreflexia management.
- Tracheostomy and ventilation care experience is essential.
- Strong understanding of infection control and respiratory care procedures.
- Must be a driver with a valid UK driving license.
- Ability to work both day and night shifts upon discharge to Bedford.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (preferred but not essential).
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
