West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a fixed term consultant to join our Emergency Department. Are you interested? Do you have outstanding Core Emergency Medicine skills? Do you have additional skills (or the desire to develop them) which could benefit a specific cohort of patients or a specific aspect of our organisation? Do you have a special interest you'd like to be supported to develop? We are looking for one outstanding clinician, and we'd also like people interested in anything from admission prevention to ultrasound, clinical governance, medical leadership or teaching. If you are interested - so are we! Applications are invited from motivated Consultants in Emergency Medicine to join our Emergency Medicine team. We have an excellent teaching and research base. We operate an annualised rota working pattern for our consultants and the successful candidates would be required to be part of this. This post is fixed term for 12 months. The clinical assessment, resuscitation and timely onward referral, admission or discharge of all types of patients attending the Emergency Department. To take ongoing responsibility for patients under their care. To provide professional and effective leadership and to be immediately available to give a Consultant opinion, guidance and advice on any patient seen in the Emergency Department when on clinical duty. To share responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of the Emergency Department. To teach and train intermediate and junior medical staff, nursing staff, medical students and paramedical staff. Contribute to production, update and maintenance of departmental guidelines, protocols and procedures in line with evidence based best practice. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Medical colleagues in other specialities and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities. Participate in the on-call rota on an equal basis with Consultant colleagues to ensure that appropriate Emergency services are provided out of normal working hours. Take an appropriate share of responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the speciality, to include appraisal. Develop and maintain good communications with General Practitioners and appropriate external agencies. This post is fixed term for 12 months. The department is a 24/7 unit dealing with unselected patients of all ages. Patients referred from General Practitioners to Surgical and Medical specialties are seen and assessed by the relevant doctors in the Emergency Assessment Unit or ED. The facilities in the ED include: 2 Receptions and three waiting areas, Triage room adult, Three Resuscitation bays (one fully paediatric equipped) Five high dependency bays Eight low dependency cubicles Three bay ENP zone including eye cubicle Three GP exam rooms One privacy room X-ray facility for ED within footprint of the department Relatives room Fully equipped teaching room with Monitor solely for ED use Rapid Assessment and Treatment (RAT) 1 mixed bay with 4 trolleys (capacity for 4 patients non COVID) 1 ambulatory chair area (4 x non COVID patients accommodated on examination couches) 2 Consultation Rooms Rapid assessment runs 10:00-19:00 Monday Friday 12.00-18:00 Saturday and Sunday Major Assessment Area (MAA): 1 x Covid Resuscitation Bay flexible use for care of adult and paediatric Covid/Infectious Resus patients 1 x negative pressure room 7 x single patient rooms The Majors Assessment Area will operate 24 hours 7 days a week. A Middle Grade Doctor and FY2/Trust Grade will be assigned to run the unit on a shift by shift basis.
