We are seeking an exceptional leader with a proven track record in motivating, inspiring, and developing teams, and driving the continuous improvement of Pharmacy services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in delivering high-quality Pharmacy services and the ability to represent The ICP and the Trust at all levels. You should have a clear vision for the future of Pharmacy services across all our sites and understand how this integrates within our Surrey Heartlands ICS and primary care partners. This is an exciting time for our Pharmacy department as we are advancing with a new modular build Aseptics unit, which will require significant leadership to install, implement, and deliver aseptic medications. Additionally, the organisation is committed to delivering a large programme of work related to ward configuration, with Pharmacy playing an integral role in its success. Furthermore, changes to qualifications for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will need to be embedded within the department. Over the past five years, the Trust has made significant investments in the Pharmacy department, including the development of 7-day Pharmacy services, refurbishment of the dispensary and stores, and the installation of a new dispensing robot. Tentative interview Friday 29th November 2024 The ICP Chief Pharmacist is a key senior role responsible for all aspects of Medicines Management and Medicines Optimisation, including risk management and other Clinical Governance matters, as well as the clinical and strategic development of Pharmacy services. Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations for Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services, and with professional accountability to the Medical Director and Clinical Director of Pharmacy for Surrey Heartlands, you will provide expert clinical, professional, and technical leadership and direction for the delivery of comprehensive Pharmaceutical services to patients and staff. You will also lead the development of Pharmacy practice. You will join a stable, well-respected, and supportive acute Pharmacy team of over 135 staff. Our Pharmacy service provides extensive Pharmaceutical support to a wide range of specialist clinical services within the Trust, including community services. Comprehensive, well-established clinical Pharmacy services support all aspects of medicines optimisation from admission through to primary care across all clinical Directorates and specialties. The Pharmacy also leads the Trust's Medication Safety and Anti-microbial Stewardship programmes. The Trust has successfully implemented a fully digital system, with the next steps involving the implementation of electronic prescribing for out-patients and improving reporting on medicines usage. About us The Chief Pharmacist is accountable, through delegated authority from the Chief Executive, for the delivery of a legal, safe, high quality and efficient pharmacy and medicines management service across the ICP. This includes providing expert pharmaceutical advice, at all levels within the place, on the safe, effective and economic management of medicines and ensuring that systems and processes are robust by effectively using multidisciplinary committee structures. They are also the Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs within the Trust. ICP professional lead for pharmacy and medicines optimisation across primary and secondary care The post-holder will provide professional advice and guidance on matters relating to the safe use and supply of medicines to the Director of Pharmacy, Surrey Heartlands, in addition, playing a full role in the delivery of the ICPs corporate agenda as detailed in its strategic plan Responsible for providing an overall strategic role in the co-ordination and provision of Medicines and Pharmacy services linking with a multitude of providers to meet the pharmaceutical needs of the population Directly manage members of pharmacy teams in defined services ICP clinical leadership for pharmacy and medicines-related transformation, value for money and improving quality and outcomes To support the pharmacy workforce in the ICP to ensure sustainable, collaborative and resilient service delivery To promote opportunities for pharmacy and medicines roles to support innovation and service delivery to improve patient outcomes Working closely with the pharmacy leadership team across Surrey Heartlands, linking with ICS director / associate directors and supporting delivery of the ICS programme of work Collaborative working with pharmacy colleagues across borders to ensure streamlined delivery of pharmacy services in a consistent manner with the patients best interest paramount in decision making Responsibility for budgets relating to prescribing and medicines management, ensuring they are optimised and improve experience and outcomes for patients Responsibility and support for various SLAs in place to deliver medicines and pharmacy services The role includes accountability for Pharmacy Services within the ICP secondary care provider [acute Trust]:o responsibility to deliver the statutory requirements of an acute trust chief pharmacist and ensure compliance with current legislative frameworks including fulfilling the provider Controlled Drug Accountable Officer roleo overall accountability for the delivery of all pharmacy and medicines optimisation services across the acute Trust site(s) and directly manage the pharmacy staff in the Trusto accountable for compliance with CQC standards for medicines managemento Participation in the acute Trust senior managers or Director on-call rotao Ensure that the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice and MHRA manufacturing requirements are complied with such that the Trust retains all statutory licenses it requires for its pharmaceutical preparation facilities and/or aseptic serviceso Ensure that the requirements of Good Clinical Trial Practice [GCP] are complied with such that the Trust retains its research and investigational medicines development activities We work closely with all the Pharmacy teams in the ICS. Surrey Heartlands ICS was a pilot site for the national Integrating Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation (IPMO) programme, and the Trust is at the forefront of working across boundaries and as a system within Pharmacy.
