Expected Shortlisting Date 03/12/2024 Planned Interview Date 17/12/2024 This position involves working across both the acute oncology assessment unit and the admissions ward. Mainly J95. J95 acute admissions is a busy demanding area seeing around 20-30patients a day. The ward clerk is a vital part of our team. As a ward clerk on J95 you will be a pivotal member of our team, answering the phone, admitting and discharging patients and working closely with the nursing team to understand the demands of the unit on a day to day basis. No day is the same. The ward clerk on J95 is a demanding, challenging and rewarding role. You will be the first face patients see when they arrive to the unit. They will then need to be added to the system and guided in the correct direction for seating prior to assessment. You will take phone calls and relay important messages helping with the overall working of the team. You will arrange transport in and out of hospital for our patients and liaise with different departments to get our patients to the correct areas. You will be involved in our nursing huddles so that you understand what is going on within the unit and the tasks required. About us JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY To undertake administrative duties at ward level including the accurate and timely recording of patient activity data on Trust systems. To undertake clerical and related duties on the ward and enable Sister/Charge Nurse and other ward staff to concentrate more freely on direct patient care. This will involve considerable liaison with other departments and wards on behalf of the ward staff. The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care. The jobholder will work within both J95 + J96. J95 is an acute assessment area seeing around 20-30 patients per day and J96 is an area caring for 22 in-patients. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Administrative and Clerical Duties - Record admission, transfer and discharge activity data onto the Trust PAS system. - Arrange patients follow-up appointments using the PAS system and order transport for patients when required. - Record changes to the bed base and inform the relevant corporate team - Handle telephone calls from relatives, hospital staff, public etc, under guidance where necessary from the Sister/Charge Nurse, and making calls where appropriate on behalf of ward staff. - Ensure that patients medical records (including x-rays) are available on the ward, obtaining these where necessary from other departments. - Transfer pathology and other reports to patients records, and general collation of records promptly and efficiently, especially on patients discharge. - Deliver patients mail. - Order stationary and complete requisition forms under instruction from Sister/Charge Nurse. - Complete electronic admission/bed system as required - Maintaining records on behalf of Sister/ Charge Nurse.
