                                                    Neonatal Advanced Clinical Practitioner with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in Bodelwyddan

                                                     Our Sub Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre (SuRNICC) at Glan Clwyd Hospital is the largest Neonatal Unit in North Wales. We are the focal point of the network of newborn care across the region. Our spacious, state of the art new building has 5 intensive care cots, 5 high dependency cots and 9 special care cots. With a team of Neonatal Consultants, ANNPs and Nurses, we provide care for sick and preterm infants above 26 weeks gestation from across North Wales and beyond. We also run the North Wales Neonatal Transport Service from Glan Clwyd.    We are a small team working on an ANNP rota which enables individuals to develop their skills with support. We provide Monday - Sunday daytime cover (including bank holidays). There are opportunities and encouragement for ANNP's to full fill all 4-pillars of advanced practice and develop expertise in their area/s of interest.   The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.   Reporting directly to the Neonatal medical staff the post holder will be an expert in Neonatal conditions, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for expanded scope of practice. Full MSc in advanced clinical practice is required.   Required to provide specialist neonatal advice to patients, carers and colleagues with regards to the diagnosis and treatment of complex Neonatal conditions. This will include the provision of advice to neonatal staff in the care and treatment of babies. In the absence of the medical registrar the post holder may be the most senior member of staff on duty and will be responsible for the clinical supervision of nursing staff and junior doctors.     About us  In the absence of a Neonatal registrar the post holder is responsible for ordering necessary investigations, and take responsibility for acting upon results, providing treatment and care both individually, as part of a team, and through referral to other agencies.    Make a differential diagnoses using decision making and problem solving skills.    Decide on and carry out treatment, including the prescribing of medicines within agreed formulary and scope of non-medical prescribing, and refer to specialists as appropriate.    Be fluent with and adhere to local protocols and guidelines   Assess and evaluate with patients and their carers the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as necessary. This will include consultation with patients and carers where the post holder may be communicating sensitive and complex condition related information where there may be barriers to understanding. On occasions this may also include breaking bad news where the treatment has been ineffective and the condition may be terminal or life limiting.   Has the authority to admit or discharge babies within their speciality area dependant on their level of experience and in line with local guidance and refer patients to other health care providers as appropriate.    Provides empathy and reassurance to patients and their carers when required.   Responsible for ensuring and maintaining the highest standards of care are met within the resources available.    Be able to work responsibly using own initiative, be able to demonstrate decisive and measured clinical decisions when transporting babies, particularly whilst the sole care provider and decision maker when in an ambulance.   To be able to work in environments and situations that are not familiar and space may be limited due to the nature of neonatal stabilisation and transfer.   To work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.   To be responsible for personal and professional development and ensure key clinical skills are updated and evidence based.   Demonstrate high level of accountability in own practice including the areas of assessment and risk management. Accountable for own clinical judgements. Communicate effectively with a wide range of people in a manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture and background and preferred ways of understanding. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation and gaining informed consent will be used with a wide variety of patients.
