Chapel Street Surgery is a friendly family-orientated GP practice serving approximately 2500 patients, in a pleasant residential area of Walsall, 4 miles from the town centre. The practice, which is situated in its own purpose-built building, is very well established, having been in existence for over 50 years.

We are looking for a forward-thinking, innovative Practice Manager to join the team who will support the GP Partners and staff in the day to day organisational running of the practice, liaise with other practices in the PCN and the PCN leadership team, manage a team of 8 staff and assist in the financial management of the practice.

This role will suit an experienced Practice Manager or a current Deputy Practice Manager/Locality Manager who is ready to take on the challenges of a Practice Manager role. Where appropriate, support will be available in the early months following appointment from an experienced Senior Practice Manager who has strong links with the practice.

They will appreciate the importance of providing patient-centered services and will support the GPs and wider team in doing so.

The new Practice Manager will ensure the day to day smooth-running of the practice, manage the team of receptionists/administrators including providing training and development opportunities, regular practice meetings and annual appraisals.

The Practice Manager will coordinate the practices work in the Quality and Outcomes framework, will monitor and encourage GPs to complete work that is resourced via Locally and Directly Enhanced Services.

Ideally our new Practice Manager will have experience of using the emis-web system and will be happy leading in various IT areas such as maintenance of the practice website, encouraging appropriate use of digital consulting etc.

The day-to-day duties and responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily operations of the practice
  • Recruiting, training and supervising administrative staff such as the medical secretary and receptionists/administrators
  • Organising duty rotas for medical and administrative staff
  • Setting goals and ensuring the practice achieves its financial objectives as directed by the GP Partners
  • Supporting and overseeing the monthly running of the staff payroll
  • Monitoring inventory and ordering new stocks of medication supplies and medical equipment
  • Managing patient records and IT systems and addressing customer complaints or concerns
  • Overseeing the areas of the Quality and Outcomes Framework and ensuring continued high achievement and excellent patient care
  • Ensuring that all Enhanced Services to which the practice are signed-up are actively pursued and offered to patients, ensuring that clinical record entries are made via national templates
  • Ensuring that contractual requirements are met
  • Ensuring that NHS England, CQC, health and safety and employment-related regulations are adhered to
  • Ensuring that the Practice is opened and closed daily, as per established schedules
