A high profile, accessible and responsive leader with managerial responsibility for service delivery and advice across a number of departments within a group.

  • Contributes to development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines across a number of departments. Due to the nature of the services that Clinical Diagnostics provides this role is open to the relevant AHPs.
  • Able to make informed decisions within their own speciality and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards, targets and objectives are met. The keys focus is on quality improvements in safety, effectiveness and patient experience. Corporate responsibilities including support for other colleagues and specialities and hospital bleep rota duties. Responsible for delivering the goals of the Matrons Charter (2004) taking a proactive as well as reactive stance on cleaning standards and infection control.

Main Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and change of practice and policy within the group, exploring new roles and ways of working to modernise the service and improve patient experience
  • Responsible for the support and delivery of effective workforce recruitment and retention strategies, including staff development and succession
  • Ensure that service delivery meets the standards expected by patients and that strategies are in place to maintain and improve high levels of patient satisfaction, responding appropriately to complaints and concerns
  • Undertake bleep-holder responsibilities for the hospital (General or Women and Childrens) on a regular
  • Utilise information and IT systems to produce accurate and timely workforce and resource and performance data and
  • Responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of projects to improve patient care and service development through the audit cycle, ensuring all services are appropriately accessible by patients and linking to the clinical governance framework and business planning
  • Supporting the development and implementation of Trust wide initiatives such as UHCWI and Together Towards World
  • Undertake occasional supervision of direct workload requiring moderate to high physical effort according to patient dependency or staff
  • Responsible for contributing to the vision and strategic development of the
  • Demonstrate through effective leadership the ability to provide professional and emotional support to individuals and groups, g. during difficult situations or unexpected events. Acting as a clinical role model to all staff and coaching the senior Nursing/Midwifery team within the group structure.
  • Accountable for maintaining a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all
  • Responsible for adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy and Clinical Group objectives designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from clinical and non- clinical risk and known Supporting the group and Trust management teams in developing and implementing business continuity plans and emergency response.
  • Ensuring effective use of group resources g. staff, equipment, beds, clinics etc to maintain balanced capacity and demand according to service requirements.
  • Maintaining and demonstrating the Trusts values, inspiring and holding to account others across the
  • To undertake daily quality walk rounds, routine and as required audits and at least one rostered clinical shift per month.
  • Responsible for the timely and efficient management of governance processes g. complaints, root case analysis and investigations.
  • Responsible for the development, monitoring and improvement of quality and performance key performance indicators g. QUESTT, safer staffing, care contact time, Maternity policy and Maternity KPIs
  • Ensure that the education, training and professional development needs of the nursing and midwifery workforce are identified and appropriate plans are in place to meet needs

As Modern Matron you will have excellent communication skills as well as having the ability to lead and motivate others. The role calls for an individual who will be highly visible, organised and empathetic to the needs of patients and staff alike.

With your clinical expertise and Leadership skills you will help lead the quality agenda within the group, ensuring a safe, high standard of care for all our patients as well as helping support the health and well being of all our staff. You will work alongside the Imaging Modern Matron and will be expected to cross cover during periods on absence.

They will be responsible for delivering the goals of the Matron's Charter (2004) taking a proactive as well as reactive stance on cleaning standards and infection control and prevention.

To demonstrate clinical credibility, participating frequently in 'back to the floor' days as well as supporting areas when being visible as a senior leader at all times, both within the Trust and when representing the Trust at external events.
