The Practice Nurse, in conjunction with the GPs undertake a wide range of assessments, screening and care for patients at the Kingsway Surgery. They will provide a professional service to patients, doctors, staff, health service professionals and others at all times.
A great opportunity to learn and develop in a training practice to progress to manage patients with chronic diseases which will form a large part of the workload. Practice Nurses are also required to undertake general treatment room duties including, dressings, wound care, immunisations, venepuncture and general health screening and health promotion advice.
Practice Nurses are required to undertake general treatment room duties including, dressings, wound care, immunisations including baby clinic, general health screening and health promotion advice. They work as a team in the practice to support the patient population with diverse needs to fulfill the GMS contract.

Undertake opportunistic screening when clinically required
Perform venepuncture and electrocardiography when required
Undertake basic wound care
Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness
Administer adult and pediatric injections under a Patient Group Direction, ensuring safe storage, disposal of vaccinations of vaccines and drugs. Update relevant paperwork as necessary
Provide advice on lifestyle issues and support patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately
Deliver travel health care, including vaccinations and advice for patients
Apply infection control measures when collecting and handling of laboratory specimens, disposing of waste materials, dealing with blood and body fluid spillages and report and treat sharps injuries
Undertake first aid and management of emergencies
In conjunction with other members of the nursing team, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care
Follow the appropriate protocols to undertake the correct collection, storage and dispatch of pathological specimens.
Ensure cleanliness of any work areas at all times.
