The Health Care Support Worker is a member of the ward team who implements prescribedcare and undertakes administrative as directed by the registered nurse to:? Assists in the provision of high quality patient care.? Ensure that patients arriving on the ward are assessed and settled within thedepartment.? Ensure the department is clean and well stocked.? Ensure that provision of food and drinks is facilitated.? Participate in activities/projects that contribute to improved patient care orexperience.
About usUnder the direct supervision of the registered nurse the post holder will: Participate as a member of the team providing the highest standard of patientcare ensuring their comfort and safety. Assist patients, with activities of daily living, respecting individual needs, dignityand privacy in all necessary activities Assist the trained nurses by undertaking basic observations such as temperature,pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturations, respiratory rate, urine analysis andweights including neurological observations Assist and support trained nurses in obtaining specimens such as stool, urine andMRSA screens Assist patients with their nutritional requirement, which includes ensuringmenus are completed , handling out drinks and food to patients (ensuring theycan reach everything they and are sat in a good eating position) and whereappropriate feed patients Undertake height and weight measurement to assist in the calculation of patientbody mass Assist in ensuring that patients are screen for MRSA Support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort andsafety6 Communicate using appropriate verbal and nonverbal methods in a variety ofsituation that may involve overcoming physical and psychological barriers. Under the supervision of a qualified nurse, organise own workload and assistpatients in all activities of daily living Provide direct technical assistance to registered nursing staff when requiredsafely utilising electronic and mechanical/manual equipment. Undertake and record clinical activities and observation such as obtainspecimens following training and assessment as directed by the Registered Nurse Enter and update patient documentation and records , utilising computerisedinformation system where required Observe for and report any change in the condition of patients to the nurse incharge Report all accidents/incidents to the nurse in charge Contribute to the maintenance of work area. E.g. disposal of linen, cleaning andtidying equipment, effective use of resources To deal with patients property in accordance with trust procedure To escort patients to other department such as directed by the nurse in Charge To help reinforce health education advice to patients To protect and maintain patient confidentiality at all time To carry out all duties in a professional manner, adhering to the policies andprocedure of the Trust and conforming to current legislation concerning Healthand safety at Work Be aware of the work in accordance with the policies and procedures of theDepartment and the Trust Maintain the confidentiality of information concerning patients staff and otherhealth care professional7 Be aware of the work in accordance with trust infection control standards Be able to report clinical incidents and be familiar with DATIX to reportincidences To undertake any relevant training and to be active in developing knowledge andskills to support practice, under the guidance of the person in charge Deal with telephone enquires sensitively and initiate appropriate action Receive and direct patients and their relatives in a helpful manner Maintain the clinical area in an organised and professional manner-clean andtidy, well stocked and in good order Demonstrates adherence to policy in the safe care use and storage of medicaland other equipment in the clinical environment Reports faulty equipment in the clinical environment Ensure that patient valuables are handled in accordance with hospital anddepartment policies and procedure Participate in audits, survey and research and development activities undersupervision.
