These posts are well suited but not limited to Senior Doctors-in-training, wanting to continue develop expertise in Paediatric Cardiology with aim to enhance their experience for career progression, as out-of-programme experience or for post CCT experience. These posts provides exposure to all aspects of Congenital Heart Disease, and, depending on the applicant, advanced training in congenital intervention, paediatric and ACHD electrophysiology, echocardiography, paediatric heart failure and transplant, and cross sectional imaging.
During the appointment, you will be involved in covering inpatient and outpatient care. During your time, you will also be encouraged to develop your area of subspecialty interest further. There is a formal teaching within the department including participation in journal club.

Clinical:
To work in a busy Paediatric Cardiology Ward covering inpatient care, participating in daily cardiology ward rounds with senior colleagues including specialist ward rounds. Involved with inpatient/outpatient day cases.
During your time, you will also be encouraged to attend and perform work in all areas of the unit including cardiac theatres, catheter laboratory, echo department and weekly case discussions.
For suitable interested applicants specific advanced training in congenital intervention, paediatric and ACHD electrophysiology, echocardiography, paediatric heart failure and transplant, or cross sectional imaging will be incorporated into their activity.
Administrative:
Admission clerking and other ward-based duties like assessments, daily or more frequent clinical review as necessary, prescribing, requesting investigations and actioning results.
Completing discharge summaries in timely manner.
Research:
Opportunities to participate in ongoing or new research projects within the department.
To develop and pursue research ideas within congenital cardiology with the support of consultants.
Teaching:
There is a formal teaching programme specifically for SHOs within the department on a weekly basis.
Participating in weekly journal club, bedside teaching, teaching medical students and attending MDT sessions.

Flexibility:
In line with the Trusts core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
