The Senior Research Nurse will act as a clinical expert and professional resource in the delivery of Respiratory/Infection Research studies within the Respiratory Biomedical Research Centre. The post holder will manage, deliver and facilitate specific research projects being undertaken within the Dept. in accordance with ICH-GCP and Research Governance guidelines, and assist in providing strategic direction for research programs within the Trust. The post holder will provide clinical leadership and co-ordination and line management for research staff to enhance research delivery and standards of care across the Trust.
The Senior Research nurse will work alongside Principle Investigators, research delivery staff and a wide range of stakeholders to lead in the delivery of high quality research, clinical expertise, professional advice, support, guidance and education to the wider multi-professional team, patients and carers within the research service.
Demonstrate in depth specialist knowledge, skills and innovative practice in research, ensuring the delivery of appropriate care and advanced practice.
To provide clinical expertise/advice across respiratory in the area of research and in implementing evidence based practice.
To ensure that research is undertaken mindful of all ethical and legal considerations.
To review all protocols mindful of current commitments and respiratory research capabilities and to ensure work is undertaken in line with study protocols.
Identifies, screens and recruits patients for the clinical trial using agreed protocols in accordance with ICH-GCP and Research Governance.
To co-ordinate the collection of data and its subsequent recording in the appropriate documents or data bases
To ensure results and case notes are recorded and stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act/Good Clinical Practice guidelines and mindful of patients confidentiality.
To play an active part in data analysis and dissemination, including the preparation of reports, presentations and papers both locally and nationally.
To ensure ongoing quality assurance, standard setting and audit in line with regulatory and corporate guidelines.
To assist in the recruitment, selection and training of staff and to monitor/evaluate performance in line with corporate guidelines
To provide support, guidance and personal and professional development opportunities to colleagues/junior staff.
To provide specialist education to all members of the clinical team, actively encouraging lifelong learning and personal development.
To co-ordinate in conjunction with the clinical nurse manager all research activity carried out in the NIHR Leicester Biomedical research centre-respiratory theme.
To autonomously perform clinical work required for the purpose of research in accordance with ICH-GCP and Research Governance guidelines.
Participate fully in the appraisal process and take responsibility for your own continuing professional development. Ensure that all mandatory training is undertaken and inform senior staff of any unmet training needs.
Actively promote the involvement of patients and the public in research.
