Assistant Psychologist Band 5 Fixed term contract until 30.11.2026 Acute & Urgent Care Directorate, Harplands Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1 WTE (37.5 hours per week) Assistant Psychologist to work in our Acute & Urgent Care (A&UC) Directorate. This is a fixed term contract based at Harplands Hospital in Stoke-on Trent working to support a trauma informed care training project. The Trust is looking for an enthusiastic & organised Assistant Psychologist to play a crucial role in the coordination & development of trauma-informed training across the Inpatient Services in North Staffordshire. Your contribution will mark the start of an exciting development around the training design & implementation of trauma-informed principles across our key services for people with mental health needs. The role is designed for those who thrive in a collaborative environment. It will primarily involve research on existing trauma-informed training, policy documents, & recommendations. A significant part of the role will be co-producing the training with a Peer Recovery Worker. You will also be responsible for collating & summarising the recommendations to be shared across the Trust. To support the co-ordination and development of trauma informed training across the Inpatient area alongside a Peer Recovery Worker. The post-holder will work under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, often independently under their direction. The role will have a primary focus on research around existing trauma informed services, policy documents and recommendations. This could encompass written summaries of key documents, producing presentations, developing baseline assessment and evaluation tools and co-facilitating discussions with colleagues and service users around the development of these ideas. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits and projects, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. About us The post holder may be required to undertake any of the duties specified in the key result areas note below. The relative priority & time allocated to each of the duties/key result areas will be determined by reference to service needs & may vary in the light of prevailing service priorities & requirements. Under supervision, to assist Psychologists & other members of the Trauma Informed Care training project with research on existing trauma-informed training, policy documents, & recommendations To assist in co-producing the training with a Peer Recovery Worker To assist Psychologists & other senior clinicians in undertaking teaching & training. This will include the production of relevant literature & contributing to training initiatives under supervision; To assist in the design & implementation of audit & research projects. This will include undertaking literature searches relevant to particular projects & the preparation & presentation of summaries & reports. To undertake data collection, analysis & the production of reports & summaries to aid service development; To be noted: This is not an exhaustive list of duties & responsibilities, & the post holder may be required to undertake other duties which fall within the grade of the job, in discussion with the manager. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria A completed upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology which confers eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership(GBC- (clearly stated on application) Desirable criteria Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice &/or research design & analysis Experience Essential criteria Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist Experience of work with people with mental health problems or disabilities, or other relevant problems or disabilities (e.g. learning disabilities, organic impairment). Desirable criteria Paid work in a setting providing direct care. Knowledge & skills Essential criteria High level of interpersonal & communication skills (written & verbal) including an ability to work & effectively communicate complex or sensitive information in highly emotive & emotionally charged settings involving conflict & significant personal distress.
