We have an exciting new opportunity to work in the Respond service, an integrated health service for people of all ages seeking asylum and refugees in London. Respond is a nurse lead, holistic healthcare assessment service that has been and will continue to be delivered in a variety of locations/ sites across London to best reach and meet the needs of this population.
Respond has developed a comprehensive integrated assessment addressing the physical, mental, dental, sexual, safeguarding, and social needs of people seeking asylum and refugees. This includes medical intervention where indicated, treatment, complex care planning, onward referrals, health education and promotion
The Respond healthcare assistant role will comprise of the following:
1. Supporting the delivery of high quality, holistic, trauma informed, inclusive care to this patient population.
2. Supporting the nursing and clinical team in identification and management of the specific health and wellbeing needs of this population.
3. Supporting access to mainstream health services through education, health promotion and empowerment of this population.
4. Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of this population as the service evolves.
The post holder will work alongside the nursing team to deliver care to people seeking asylum and refugees. They will have experience and be competent in venepuncture. The post holder will need to be able to work as part of a team, have good communication skills and be flexible and adaptable to the changing workload of a clinic environment.
Ideally the post holder will have experience of working with inclusion health groups and working with both adults and children.

The health care assistant works as part of the Respond team under the supervision of the nursing team. This includes participation in patient care as required, contributing to clinic organisation and improvement, supporting the nursing and clinical teams in the provision of a safe and caring environment, and supporting the flow and coordination of patients.They will have an awareness of the needs of this population and experience of working with children and young people is desirable.For the role of healthcare assistant within the Respond service, there are two part time positions available (1.4 WTE, split between 2 posts).
The healthcare assistant is expected to work in UCLH and in the community, across London, as service requirements dictate. The Respond service is operational Monday to Friday during standard working hours (09.00-17.00) with flexibility as required.
The Respond team is a small multi-disciplinary team that was set up in 2021. This project has progressed and changed rapidly with the changing needs of the service and is currently transitioning into a sustainable service.
The team strives to provide inclusion health for people seeking asylum and refugees across London.
This role provides opportunities to evolve and develop the healthcare assistant role in this service.
