We are currently recruiting to a Band 5 Rotational post within the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Care Group. This post is part of a wider Mental Health rotation with opportunities to rotate into the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team, BeeU (Children & Young People), Forensics, Community Mental Health and Older Adult Inpatients. There is also opportunity to explore joining the Shropshire System Band 5 Rotation and gain experience working within one of our partner organisations.

You will be responsible for the Occupational Therapy assessment of care needs and contributing to the formulation of the person's needs and the development of a relevant plan based upon the person's negotiated goals and relevant evidence-based interventions.

In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, you will provide Occupational Therapy interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and/or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical pathway.

You will be working in a variety of community and inpatient mental health services and geographies. This may require flexibility working across pathways, dependent on skill and service need.

This 12 month rotation is ideal for a newly qualified occupational therapist or if you are seeking to widen your career opportunities through working in a range of specialities and settings.


Occupational Therapy students who are about to qualify are encouraged to apply

  • Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning in conjunction with service user and carer, evaluation of individual treatment plans.
  • Responsible for participating in setting quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in-line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
  • Assess patient's individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Deliver a range of non-pharmacological interventions, following specific occupational therapy assessments to enable understanding of any expression of an unmet need and to maximise an individual's abilities.
  • Complete and contribute, where appropriate, to robust risk assessments and risk management plans. Deliver and promote positive risk-taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximise occupational performance/independence.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting on patient conditions.
  • Utilise agreed outcome measures to review the effectiveness of interventions, as part of the care planning and evaluation process.
  • Support in the provision of formal and informal training of post and pre- registration students, staff members, carers and service users.
  • Participate in the development of the service to ensure clinical governance processes are actively implemented at team level.
  • Assist in ensuring that service aims and objectives are fulfilled and identify factors which may inhibit these from being achieved.
  • The post holder will be required to work within the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Ethics and Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain an up-to-date level of professional competence within the specific environment.
  • Ensure care is provided in-line with relevant local policy, NICE Guidelines, national initiatives and Royal College of Occupational Therapists requirements.
