The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting various respiratory tests, ensuring high standards of patient care, and contributing to the growth of the department. This includes performing tests with minimal supervision, obtaining accurate results, and meeting specific trial protocols. The role also involves supervising junior staff, participating in research projects in collaboration with the university and the Oxford Respiratory Trials Unit, and becoming an ARTP Practitioner (Level III).
Training will include a wide range of respiratory investigations and the candidate should demonstrate care and respect towards patients and colleagues. The Lung Function Lab provides a vital service to patients with respiratory disease and also in supporting a number of other clinical services within the Trust who rely heavily on the skills provided by this specialist team.

To be able to perform with minimal supervision the physiological tests listed under main responsibilities.
To obtain accurate and informative results from patients and any other subjects performing the tests ensuring specifics of individual trial protocols are met.
To be involved in work requiring a considerable degree of responsibility and autonomy and include activities that are complex and/ or non-routine.
To be able to supervise and help train more junior members of staff/trainees in the clinical dept., plus organisational and management duties to assist the smooth running of the department.
To demonstrate care and respect, for both patients and fellow staff members.
To become an ARTP Practitioner (Level III) Respiratory Physiologist with the Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology within an agreed timeframe
Train in Sleep physiology and gain experience in CPAP and NIV set ups, performing, analysing and develop skill in the interpretation of overnight oximetry studies and blood gases.

You will gain training and experience in carrying out the full range of respiratory investigations including Spirometry, Gas transfer test, Static Lung Volume assessments, Lying & standing Vital Capacity or Mouth pressures, Post Bronchodilator reversibility studies, Methacholine Challenge testing, Exhaled Nitric Oxide tests, Fitness to Fly test, Capillary blood gases, CPAP/NIV set ups.
