The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, which includes a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital.
Successful applicants will support the Endocrinology and Diabetes specialty team in the management of their in-patient & outpatient workload and will participate in the Trust-wide out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites.
Our team provides specialist Diabetes & Endocrinology services across our 3 hospital sites (Dewsbury District Hospital, Pinderfields Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary).
Our acute inpatient work is provided on a specialist Diabetes & Endocrinology ward on the Pinderfields site. We provide a specialist MDT in-reach service to the remainder of the acute hospital.
We provide specialist clinics for a number of conditions including Diabetic Foot Disease, Diabetes and Endocrine Pregnancy Disorders, Young Adult and Transitional clinics in diabetes, Insulin Pump Clinics, Thyroid & Parathyroid Clinic, Weight Management Clinic and of course general Diabetes and Endocrine Clinics.
The main duties of the post will include:
Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.
Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate
Out-patient activities - clinics
Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings
Involvement in relevant administration duties
Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate
Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities

The Service Role
From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site senior trainee rota. The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week.

Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.
