Applications are welcome from Specialist Psychiatrist Doctors with 6+ years in the grade to meet the minimum criteria of the post.
This post attracts a Recruitment and Retention Premium of £1,000 pcm.
The post holder is expected to be Section 12 registered and appointed to a full-time, 10 PA role, providing cover for HMP Elmley mental health services. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the Clinical Director or Kent Prison Lead to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder and agree the formal job plan. The job plan will be reviewed at least annually thereafter.
The overall split of the programmed activities is 8 to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2 to Supporting Professional Activities. The timetable is indicative only and will be reviewed. The SPA time available will allow achieving appraisal and revalidation requirements for the GMC and meeting PDP objective. There are no out of hours on-call associated with this post.
Clinical work - HMP Elmley (8 PA DCC)
Take a lead in the management of complex cases and provide clinical leadership of team.
Quality improvement/Research/Teaching- (2 SPA)
The postholder would be encouraged to undertake the AC status course.
The post includes an interesting and varied range of clinical responsibilities for prisoners with a wide range of clinical conditions, including acute and chronic mental illness, personality disorder and ADHD.
Within the stepped care model, the Elmley service screens about 40 referrals per week. The in-reach team holds a caseload of about 90. New assessments are normally slotted into the ward rounds (Inpatients) and into prearranged out-patient Clinics if the new assessments are generated from the referral system. All referrals are triaged by the In-Reach Team. On rare occasions, assessments are requested as an emergency from the wings or segregation unit. This is variable but on average once a week.
The work load generated is not considered to be onerous. Interest applicants will be able to visit the site and speak to the team and the current consultant in post. Currently there is full time band 7 Operational Manager, 3 band 6 nursing staff and 2 band five nursing staff and 2 star workers.
The electronic patient information system which is used within all Kent Prisons is System One. The post holder would be provided with training in Rio, which is used by the trust. Remote working through an IPAD or Laptop can be requested and provided.
