Monday to Friday 08:30 17:00 (up to 30 hours a week)

The post holder will work predominantly within the Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial and Orthodontics.

Ensure best possible dental nursing care and practice including those with complex medical, physical and emotional needs.

Provide close support to dentistry, maintaining high standards of patient care and infection control.

Learn new skills in line with new practices, qualifications and modernisation.

About us

The post holder will be expected to:

Be responsible for the delivery of clinical expertise in all aspects of the clinical setting acting as a visible practitioner in the Department.

To have the responsibility for the preparation and organisation of dental units where clinical procedures will be undertaken.

Collaborate with other health care professionals in the delivery of high standards of effective Dental care within best practice guidelines in clinical outpatient setting as well as dental theatre.

Following appropriate training, participate in conscious sedation and other procedures under the supervision and direction of the Dentist.

Monitor the patients physical signs prior to, during and post treatment enabling early recognition of condition changes and ensuring appropriate corrective action is instituted.

Provide fourhanded dentistry throughout the patients treatment, anticipating the clinicians needs and any possible complications which may arise including assistance in the management of medical and dental emergencies.

Demonstrate awareness of legislation e.g. child protection, vulnerable adults, mental health issues and act appropriately when required.

Practice in accordance with the GDC Code of Professional Conduct in order that a safe and quality service is provided.

Promote and collaborate in developing good working relationships with departments to ensure the patient journey is effective and efficient.

Ensure that patient documentation is accurate and defensible disseminating all relevant changes in the patients condition to MDT.

Contribute to clinical governance processes including adverse incident reporting.

To promote health education to patients attending the department.

Undertake, perform and assess enhanced skills within the clinical area, to improve the patient experience and journey

Ensure competence in the correct use of all the equipment used in the clinical setting in accordance with instructions and department procedures, reporting any faults as necessary.

Work independently and have responsibility for own actions when delivering dental nursing care.

Achieve and maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control in line with current Code of Practice.

Process and develop radiographs, complying with current regulations.

Demonstrate an overall awareness of quality issues and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
