The post is based within out Pharmacy Technical Services team, providing support to the aseptic unit and acting as an 'Authorised Pharmacist' to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day provision of clinical pharmacy services to the haematology directorate. This will involve working closely with the haematology team providing specialist advice and ensuring safe and timely supply of medications to inpatients, outpatients, and the chemotherapy day unit. The specialist haematology pharmacists are key members of the multidisciplinary team, attending weekly MDT meetings as well as contributing towards teaching, guideline development and clinical audit.

The post is based within out Pharmacy Technical Services team, providing support to the aseptic unit and acting as an 'Authorised Pharmacist' to ensure safe and efficient service delivery. The post holder will be an integral member of the Technical Services team, supporting with the implementation of the action plan from the Assurance of Aseptic Preparation of Medicines audit to continuously develop the service and maintain the unit's low risk rating. The successful candidate will have previous experience working within Technical Services. You must have completed (or be undertaking) the clinical diploma and be committed to continuing professional development. Previous experience working within haematology or oncology would be an advantage but is not essential.

Summary of responsibilities:

  • To be a pharmacy clinical specialist in haematology. To provide support to the haematology service and pharmacy Technical Services.
  • To support the clinical pharmacy team in the management and development of specialist clinical services related to haematology in accordance with local and national directives, guidelines and medicines legislation.
  • To work closely with clinical specialists and pharmacy staff for the provision of an efficient, co-ordinated and robust pharmaceutical service for clinical haematology. To meet expectation and demands, reduce risks and improve patient safety.
  • To participate in the provision of training, mentoring and supervision of pharmacy staff within clinical haematology and Technical Services, in accordance with established policies, procedures and individual requirements.
  • To act as an Authorised Pharmacist, as delegated by the Accountable Pharmacist in accordance with Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act 1968.
  • To provide support to ensure that the Technical Services facilities is compliant with all aspects of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and all other relevant quality standards.
  • To assist with the build and maintenance of the electronic chemotherapy prescribing system (ChemoCare).
  • To be part of the clinical pharmacy service, to inpatient wards and dispensary. To participate in late night, weekend and bank holiday rotas.
