The Catering Assistant role at Northampton General Hospital involves working in a fast-paced kitchen environment to prepare a range of in-house food items for patients and the on-site restaurant. The ideal candidate should be passionate about food, knowledgeable in kitchen practices, food safety, and allergen awareness, alongside possessing strong knife skills and cooking technique understanding. Responsibilities include preparing high-quality sandwiches, wraps, salads, snacks, and desserts while adhering to health, hygiene, and safety regulations, including compliance with Food Hygiene Legislation and HACCP procedures.

In addition to food preparation, the position entails maintaining cleanliness, proper storage and labeling of chilled produce, and monitoring kitchen equipment. The Catering Assistant will also participate in waste monitoring, equipment maintenance reporting, and suggesting improvements to the catering service. Daily duties include cleaning designated areas, completing schedules, temperature records, and timesheets using app-based software, and ensuring all packaged food is correctly labeled.
