We are looking for an experienced diabetes specialist dietitian to lead our inpatient and outpatient diabetes services. This is a fixed term position created by our current post holder commencing maternity leave. The role forms a core member of the UHBW diabetes service and working closely with the wider MDT. They will provide specialist expertise to patients requiring specialist diabetes interventions including carbohydrate counting, insulin adjustments and insulin pumps. They will deliver a number of outpatient diabetes clinics and also support the delivery of specialist diabetes care to complex inpatients. You will be skilled in managing your own caseload supporting highly complex inpatient cases across a variety of patient pathways. The team will also need your expertise to support MDT, antenatal and transition clinics. Hence you will need in depth knowledge of diet, drug & insulin therapy coupled with complex nutrition support. As you will work with & through others, excellent communication & behaviour change skills are required.

The Senior Specialist Dietitian will provide a highly specialist clinical service for inpatients who require highly complex dietary & nutrition support therapy within various pathways.
Lead the dietetic element of the diabetes pathway providing direction for peers & colleagues for those patients with diabetes as a primary diagnosis.
Provide a comprehensive specialised service, which includes relevant education and/or training to all healthcare professionals, carers, and other workers.
Contributes to all relevant activities involved in this e.g. ward rounds, meetings, audit and research.
Committed to the maintenance of personal specialist expertise, which is current, relevant, and accessible.
Provide clinical cover for other specialist dietitians' duties in their absences notably other diabetes clinics & time critical patient care.
Directly line manages junior dietitians, including appraisal & supervision.
The Senior Specialist Dietitian will also have supervisory responsibility for junior staff.
Participates in the training/development of junior dietitians, assistant grades, and dietetic students.
Undertakes any other reasonable duties, which may be identified in consultation with the Clinical Lead for Nutrition & Dietetics & Operational Lead for Adult Nutrition & Dietetic / Speech & Language Therapy Services.
