In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role requires engaging in operational management, including monitoring team performance, addressing complaints, and contributing to service innovation. The Nurse Specialist / Team Leader will prioritize continuing professional development and ensure a supportive learning environment for staff. Furthermore, the candidate must maintain NMC registration, uphold professional standards, and actively participate in the nursing community within the Trust to enhance overall patient care and safety.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Chest pain team leader at Pinderfields Hospital.
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and motivated individual to support the nursing team. You will have an understanding of effective leadership skills and demonstrate effective and efficient use of resources available. Your proactive and compassionate approach to the staff and delivery of patient care will enable you to act as support, supervisor, and teacher to all staff. You must have the ability to lead and work with existing motivated and dedicated nursing staff. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high standards of patient care.
Managing/Co-ordinating nurse led clinics.
Working in outpatients clinics
Acting as a resource for specialist knowledge and advice
Patient communication, education, information
MDT meetings, liaising with GPs, district nurses
Providing specialist, knowledge, skills and expertise in the practice area, ward rounds
Initiating, developing flexible and innovative approaches to meet patient needs.
Co-ordinate the Acute and Elective Cardiac Cath Lab activity.
Liaise with the cardiology pre assessment and scheduling team re elective patients attending for procedures to ensure appropriate and safe patient procedures.
Liaise with Interventional radiology regarding Lab and staffing availability to ensure effective and efficient use of the Cardiac Cath labs and to avoid unnecessary downtime.
Attend weekly 6:4:2 MDT Cath Lab meetings.
Take an active role in the development of/ updating relevant guidelines and documentation regarding the Cardiac Cath Lab.
Keep up to date with the Trust access policy and ensure patients meet the 18 week pathway targets. Working with the management team to implement strategies to tackle and reduce breaches.
Liaise with the ward nursing and medical teams to ensure appropriate referral and preparation of patients prior to their procedure.
Be flexible to an ever changing environment with regards to Cardiac Cath Lab activity.

Clinical
- Develop a high level of clinical decision making, monitor and improve standards of care, working within their advanced scope of professional practice.
- Lead clinical care by managing a patient caseload providing expert assessment, planning and evaluation.
- Co-ordinate and manage nurse-led clinics (within Speciality/service).
- Contribute towards a multi-professional approach in the management of patients within the specialist area, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
- Support patients and their families and ensure that they receive the required information to enable them to self manage, lead or participate in their care delivery.
- Work with the Matron to promote the development of nurses undertaking the CNO Ten Key Roles as considered appropriate e.g. Nurse Prescribing
Leadership
- Be an innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues promoting an open and honest and transparent culture.
- Identify, develop and sustain mechanisms to support patient involvement and feedback
- Be a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available, and accessible for support and advice in relation to the management of patients in the speciality.
- Provide leadership to the team of nurse specialists and working with the matron, develop new roles / ways of working (High Impact Changes). Linked to directorate business plans.
- Lead on consultations and develop strategies for delivering effective care within a changing environment that improves the quality of care and health outcomes in the specialist area.
Management / Operational
- Employ effective decision making skills to address complex issues and use effective change management skills to implement these.
- Take the lead in investigation of incidents / complaints when required, including detailed reports / letters to complainants.
- Manage a team of specialist nurses / advanced nurse specialists towards achieving directorate, and Trust objectives.
- Identify and develop proposals and business cases as required for future service innovation.
- Ensure appropriate skill mix, cover is provided when planning rotas and delegating workload.
- Delegate work to match capabilities and workload of team members.
- Manage own and other resources effectively to budget ensuring quality service delivery within budgetary constraints seeking to reduce budgetary costs by ongoing review
- With team members undertake performance development reviews including reviewing the performance measures framework.
- Monitor sickness, absence and competence issues in line with Trust Policy.
- Manage recruitment and selection of staff in line with Trust Policy.
Education / Training
- Takes responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance, including identifying own development needs and maintain own portfolio in accordance with re-registration requirements.
- Participates in the supervision and the teaching of pre-post registration students, new staff members and junior medical staff.
- To lead and develop with the Matron educational programmes in relation to the speciality.
- Supports the ward / department sister in ensuring the clinical environment is conducive to effective learning.
- Identifies training needs and develop training resources for nursing staff to enable role development and to meet the needs of the service.
Professional Responsibility
- Maintain active status on NMC register.
- Act always in accordance with NMC code of conduct and guiding documents, Health Care Standards
- Adhere to Trust Policy & Procedure.
- Maintain a professional portfolio.
- Maintain a high level of awareness of relevant research issues and trends within the specialist area of practice and in nursing generally.
- Take an active part in the development of nursing in the Trust via participation in professional nursing forum and shared governance initiatives.
- Take responsibility for personal development and education with regard to, Personal Development Plan objectives.
- Participate in Clinical Supervision for self and others and utilise reflective practice techniques.
- Provide support and development for nurses through mentorship.
- The post holder is responsible for ensuring the safety of patients at all times and promoting a safety culture through the effective management of risk.
