To achieve the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness at all times.

Household Assistant

16 hours per week covering all shifts Monday to Sunday includes Bank Holiday working

A rewarding career that makes a difference.

Our staff and volunteers make St Andrews Hospice. Without our committed and caring workforce we could not provide the outstanding home from home service within our local community. We have about 180 staff, including 68 clinical staff, enabling us to provide vital 24-hour care, seven days a week.

We have a very rewarding opportunity for a Household Assistant. We are looking for someone that has experience within a cleaning role, ideally with experience of working within a care environment. If this sounds like you then we would love to hear from you.

In return we offer you:

  • Competitive salary
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Tolls paid for staff who live over the Humber Bridge
  • Generous annual leave allowance
  • Access to excellent staff benefits
  • Continued professional development
  • Flexible working

As a member of the Household Team you will work under the supervision of the Household Supervisor, working as part of a multi-functional team, whilst contributing towards the excellent standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the Childrens, Adult and Non-Clinical Departments of the Hospice.

Previous cleaning, household and housekeeping experience is essential with full awareness and training in COSHH and infection control. In addition, basic knowledge of a palliative care or care setting environment, though not essential, would be an advantage in this role.

Flexibility is key to this support services role with working hours based upon an internal rota which includes mornings, days, evenings, weekend and bank holiday working.

About us

  • To work as directed by the Household Supervisor
  • Specific duties will be detailed in the cleaning programme, which covers all areas within the Hospice with the exception of the main kitchen
  • To achieve the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness at all times
  • To observe all Health & Safety laws and regulations and follows all Hospice policies and procedures
  • To maintain professional boundaries at all times especially when working in patient areas
  • As a member of the Household Team, support colleagues through sharing and assisting in tasks where appropriate
  • To work on a rota basis (including weekends) and be prepared to do additional shifts to cover absences
  • Any other associated duties that may be required from time to time
