The successful candidate will receive training in safe manual handling techniques, follow infection control and safety protocols, and participate in service development initiatives. Overall, the role is integral to supporting patient care and ensuring the ward functions smoothly within the NHS framework.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and motivated housekeeper to work in our hospital. The housekeeper is a valued support member helping to ensure that the ward is pleasant for all patients and staff. We are interested in hearing from individuals who are willing to work hard within a strong, friendly team. The main focus of the post holder is to facilitate the maintenance of a safe and comfortable environment whilst maintaining patient privacy, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.
As a housekeeper you will provide internal supply chain services such as ordering, receipting, distributing and recording goods delivered to the ward using our computerized and manual systems. You will unpack and check delivered items against delivery/order information and action any discrepancies. You will also liaise with a range of people and replenish stock as needed.
This role can be busy but rewarding with tight timescales to ensure our nursing teams have sufficient stock at all times. The role requires some physical effort (moving cages, boxes and parcels) but training in safe manual handling techniques will be provided.
To facilitate the rapid availability of required consumables and equipment on Ward 7A.
Inputs basic stock order sheets onto the correct electronic ordering system.
Assists in the loading and unloading of goods.
Ensures all orders/deliveries are received in acceptable condition and if the goods are not in acceptable state, then the ward manager is informed. Receives goods through Receipt & Distribution (stores), checks against the details on the advice/delivery notes and if correct they are signed for wit the advice/delivery notes being retained for audit purposes and a record of the receipt entered onto the appropriate computerised system.
Ensures empty roll cages are collected from corridors and returned to the supply chain collection point, in a routine and timely manner.
Liaises with the procurement officer for any items that may have been returned for disposal. Disposes of any items, in the appropriate manner, as directed by procedure or procurement officer.
To contribute towards the compliance of safety checklists, maintain compliance with CQC standards.
To support the rapid assessment and delivery of care according to agreed protocols and national guidance within a 7-day service by regular assessment of available stores and location.
To work to maintain and improve the availability of required equipment on Ward 7A in order for demand to be met.
Actively participate in service development.
About us
The post holder is expected to keep the stores area clean and in a secure condition in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and report any concerns to the supervisor or ward manager.
They would assist in the security and safe custody of local stock and other delivered goods. Ensure that local stock is effectively rotated upon receipt.
Keep goods and paperwork tidy.
Takes personal responsibility for selecting the correct method of transportation of goods. If manual transportation is required this may include the use of roll cages, pallet lifters or other lifting or carrying aids. The housekeeper MUST ensure the required training has been undertaken BEFORE use and consults with the ward manager where the required training has not been undertaken needed to complete the task.
Where required (or requested) to do so, ensure that Personal protective equipment is used. If required to work high lifting equipment that is done with at least one other colleague present.
Where required or requested demonstrates their duties to new starters or wider colleagues.
The post holder will maintain the security of sensitive personal or other confidential information received by them and will reliably apply all relevant information governance policies to working practice. Additionally, they will be expected to follow secure operating procedures for handling information in all formats, including verbal, written and that held electronically.
The post holder will support the Trusts internal audit service during regular reviews.
The post holder is responsible and accountable for their own practice in line with Trust infection prevention and control policies that reflect evidence, best practice, and legislative requirements.
In addition to observing the departmental rules and procedures, which all staff are required to observe and follow, the post holder is also required to follow the Trusts general policies and procedures that apply to the employment relationship. Whilst the Trust recognises specific responsibilities fall upon management, it is also the duty of the post holder to accept personal responsibility for the practical application of these policies, procedures, and standards. The post holder should familiarise themselves with these, and ensure they have an understanding of them, and adhere to them.
