Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum in Diagnostic Interventional Radiology.
The successful applicants will be expected to join our team of enthusiastic Consultants to contribute to the increasing workload of the department which has been driven upwards by a combination of service expansion, stroke, cancer pathway driven targets, and multidisciplinary meeting attendance. You will be expected to contribute to the diagnostic and acute Interventional Radiology cross sectional reporting requirements of the department and expected to be flexible to meet these evolving needs including contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings. The role will include the provision of 7 day diagnostic and on call cover.
We are offering the opportunity to join an established and proactive Consultant Radiologist team in order to respond to the need of our growing service. UHB has a large radiology training scheme so an enthusiasm and aptitude for teaching and training would be an advantage. The candidate would be expected to participate with colleagues in any out-of-hours provision that is required. Applicants must be on or eligible for GMC specialist register for Radiology.
This is a full time post and incorporates 9 PA s of direct patient care based on a 10 PA contract. Flexibility in association with service needs will be required on a weekly basis in line with an annualised hours framework. The appointee will support clinical colleagues in offering a comprehensive imaging service for the trust and our patients. The timetable of activities will be agreed with the Clinical Service Lead of Imaging before taking up the post and will take into account the post-holders area of specialist interest. Sample timetables of activities are available on request. The job plan may be altered in future in consultation with radiological colleagues, the Clinical Service Lead and Divisional Medical Director depending upon the future needs of the service and the individual. Trust policy is for new consultants to be offered 1 SPA session.
About usThe post is subject to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract (England) as
supplemented by the Trusts own terms and conditions. The appointee will be expected to work
within the facilities available to the Imaging Department and any new service developments are
subject to the provision of necessary resources within the Trust. There is an active appraisal and
development programme and all consultant staff will take part in this process.
The post holder must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and is advised to maintain
up to date membership of a recognised medical defence organisation. The appointee will be
required to live within a distance that allows the appointee safely to fulfil their clinical commitments
as agreed with the Medical Director.
An applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered
for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed with
the Trusts on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.
The successful candidate is expected to be aware of local policies and procedures and comply with
the standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trusts. In particular where the
Consultant manages employees of the Trust, he/she will be expected to observe the local
employment and personnel policies and procedures.
Consultant appointments are made to the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust as a whole; as
services are developed and changed, the base of posts may alter and any employee of the Trust will
be expected, within an agreed clinical strategy, to move his/her sessions as the service requires. In
particular, your attention is drawn to the fact that the post advertised may include routine evening
and week-end working as part of the working arrangements. The specific scheduling of such
activities would be subject to mutual agreement and may be agreed at a later date in the future.
Your attention is drawn to the confidential nature of information collected within
the NHS. The unauthorised use or disclosure of patient or other personal
information is a dismissible offence and in the case of computerised information,
could result in a prosecution for an offence or action for civil damages under the
Data Protection Act 1998.
