An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Primary Care 24 (PC24) as a Senior Clinical Coder & Administrator on a 6-month fixed term contract.
As a PC24 Senior Clinical Coder & Administrator you will be required to summarise and read code relevant information from patients clinical records, hospital correspondence and other sources into EMIS Web, working strictly in accordance with the practice protocols. This could include complex conditions and treatments, ensuring you offer patients an accurate and consistent clinical coding service using a variety of different systems.

- Support and act as mentor to less experienced coders & Administrators and assist with their development; Participate in discussions relating to general coding and administrative problems and issues.#
- Assist in the continuing development and improvement of the clinical coding and administrative team in order that high quality-data can be collected and produced with minimum delay.
- Oversee and support daily administrative tasks, ensuring smooth operation of patient appointments, records, and correspondence.
- Work with together with the management and clinical team to ensure they understand the coding process.
- Plan and prioritise own workload to meet performance and quality targets and, in a timely manner, advise the line manager of any hindrance to the achievement of these targets.
- Liaise with medical professionals, patients, and external partners, acting as a point of contact for complex queries and complaints.
- Coding adherence to Enhanced Services (ES), Quality Outcome Framework (QOF and Local Quality Contracts (LQC)
- Conduct audits and quality checks to maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records.
- Identify and correct discrepancies in coding to ensure consistent and high-quality data collection for improved patient care and reporting.
- Process all correspondence received, in both digital and paper formats in an accurate, efficient manner including scanning onto the correct record and appropriately coded.
- In periods of absence, cover the workload of other colleagues as required.
- Manage the practice mailbox ensuring all emails are responded to.
- Ensure that any required actions following receipt of correspondence are dealt with in a timely manner.
- Undertake clinical documentation reading and assist in workflow optimisation.
- Support the Clinical team with processing referrals using the electronic referral system (ERS)
- Maintain the referrals database ensuring that any rejected referrals are actioned immediately.
About you
Experience of using EMIS - IMersey Clinical Coding Qualification or equivalent
- Knowledge of clinical coding and EMIS workflow protocols
- Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills with a wide variety of people.
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Good working knowledge of medical terminology
- Educated to GCSE Level C in literacy and numeracy or equivalent work-based experience.
- Patient focused, ability to show patience, empathy, and compassion via telephone.
