Band Specialty Doctor: Depending on experience Aligned to current NHS Speciality Doctor Pay Scales  FIXED TERM 
Hours: This role is offered as a whole time equivalent of 40 hours or on a job share basis.


Main duties of the job

The specialty doctor will provide medical support to the hospice with a focus on caring for our inpatients, outpatients and community services. Successful applicants will be encouraged to take part in the continued professional development of the medical team and the wider multi-professional team.


About the role:

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that patient care is of the highest quality and always delivered with compassion and respect.
  • Responsibility for the evidence-based assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of medical care for in-patient, day service, and community patients.
  • Demonstrating advanced empathetic interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with patients and carers through the patient experience.
  • Managing referrals to the in-patient ward and the allocation of beds with the consultants and ward nurses.
  • Managing referrals, as part of a integrated multi-disciplinary team, allocation and on-boarding and off-boarding to the palliative virtual 10 bed ward.

Under the direction of the Medical Director and working as a valued member of the clinical team, you will be responsible for the full medical care and advice for the Inpatient Unit, outpatients service and palliative virtual ward. In addition, we are an approved placement for medical students with University of Liverpool and GPST programme accredited by NHS England which you will have valuable involvement in.

You will work as part of a medical team working under the direction of 1 full time consultant in palliative medicine and alongside 2 part time speciality doctors, 1 full time advanced clinical practitioner, 1 part time advanced clinical practitioner and 3 GPSTs.

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and highly motivated speciality doctor in palliative medicine to join our palliative medical team. You will work with us across our Hospice services - including in the inpatient unit, outpatient services, and community including the first community hospice led palliative virtual ward as required.

You will have the opportunity to participate in research/audit projects, supervising junior doctors, medical students, nursing staff and develop your own knowledge through the strong team setting.

This role can support an opportunity for a speciality doctor, or senior speciality doctor, who is keen to continue to develop within the hospice sector, as part of an innovative forward thinking clinical team.
