An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse with excellent clinical skills to join our team of Childrens Endocrinology Nurse Specialists. The team work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team. No previous experience of endocrinology is required but evidence of some endocrine experience will be beneficial. The Yorkshire Centre for Paediatric & Adolescent Endocrinology Service is based at Leeds Childrens Hospital and provides a comprehensive service for children and teenagers with disorders of the endocrine glands. We provide a tertiary service for West, North and East Yorkshire with specialist outreach clinics in Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Airedale, York and Northallerton. All aspects of endocrine advice are provided including assessments and treatment of children with short stature, early and late puberty, disorders of endocrine glands (pituitary, a The Paediatric Endocrinology Team at Leeds Children's Hospital support all young patients who have problems with the secretion of hormones. Responsibilities will include the management of a shared caseload aged 0 18 years (both inpatients and outpatients). Attending clinics and inpatient wards as required, managing the telephone advice line for ad hoc patient support, ordering blood tests and managing results, updating information literature, written referrals to regional Childrens Community Nursing Teams, liaising with MDT and other professionals, training, co-ordination and support for oral medications and subcutaneous injections at home. A driving licence is desirable to fulfil this role. About us The Jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources. The job holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, parent /carer preparation and education that will support and inform them through their childs surgery and future management of their condition. The post holder will support the family to ensure safe discharge home. The job holder will liaise with and be responsible for the communication between the hospital and all relevant agencies.
