Band Consultant: £105,504 to £139,882 a year per annum  FIXED TERM 
The post holder will be based at both Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospitals, but with no planned cross site travel in a day.


LOCUM CONSULTANT IN ENDOCRINOLOGY/GIM (EH/CMH)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Endocrinologist to join our team on a 1-year fixed term basis. This post has been created to cover a 1-year career break of a colleague.

The post holder will be based at both Ealing Hospital and Central Middlesex Hospitals, but with no planned cross site travel in a day. They will join an established team on both sites and have an allocated office and dedicated secretarial support.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the ongoing care of the general medicine patients on a rotational basis at Ealing Hospital and undertake General Medical on call commitments each month at Ealing Hospital.

Outpatient activity will be at both Ealing and Central Middlesex Hospital sites and as per job plan reflect a mix of endocrine and diabetes clinics. The post holder will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest. During the week allocated to general medical cover the post holder will retain one clinic based at Ealing Hospital. They will contribute to the triaging of diabetes & endocrinology clinic referrals from primary care and to the review of internal ward referrals.

The post holder will be expected to engage with the multidisciplinary team and will supervise junior doctors and other members of the MDT. Participation in cross site meetings, audits and transformation projects is supported and encouraged.


The Post

The post holder will be expected to undertake three and a half clinics per week, but this clinic commitment is reduced to one clinic when allocated to covering inpatient care as consultant of the week. There is a standardised template for clinics in line with RCP guidelines.

The post holder will also be involved in the provision of specialty endocrinology input to the medical admissions unit and Emergency Department at Ealing Hospital. The expected endocrinology inpatient referrals are between 3-6 per week. At Central Middlesex site there are lower referral numbers as the inpatient bed base is smaller. The patients are seen primarily by the specialist registrar and consultant review /advice is sought where necessary.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the on-call rota covering emergency admissions and ambulatory care at the Ealing site. Currently the General medical on-call commitment is approximately 1 in 15 and the on-call consultant covers 5-9pm in evening and corresponding next morning 7-9 am post take. A typical medical take is 30-40 patients per 24 hours and reflected within the job plan as 1 PA /DCC. Time off in lieu is given and reflected in the departmental rota. Emergency cover is arranged by the acute medical team if required.

The post is offered as a DCC/SPA split of 7.5 DCC/2.5 SPA
