An exciting opportunity for a skilled Nurse to join our small Neuroendocrine Tumour [NET] Clinical Nurse Specialist team. This is a regional NET Specialist team supporting patients from across the Yorkshire region with Neuroendocrine tumours.
You will work as part of the team to provide advanced nursing expertise, caring for patients, carers and their families to help them understand their diagnosis and treatment plan. This includes support at key points during their pathway from diagnosis, throughout and beyond treatment.
The treatment for NET patients is varied and so this represents a great opportunity to learn about a number of cancer treatments and the support required in hospital, outpatients and at home. NET patients with complex physical and emotional needs requiring skilled support and the provision of community support closer to their home.
The role is an interesting and varied one. Initiative and problem-solving skills are essential. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, time management and organising skills along with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Informal enquiries and visits are recommended and encouraged.
You will work with a team of health care professionals as part of the wider NET MDT including Medical and Surgical teams and liaise with these teams to enable quality individualised care for patients with a Neuroendocrine Tumour.
We assess each new patient using a Holistic Needs Assessment and support interventions accordingly. We provide research-based patient information and answer patients questions about this new diagnosis. We encourage a holistic approach utilising the Maggie's Centre and Clinical Psychology teams as well as other holistic support centres across Yorkshire. We work closely with Community Palliative Care Teams.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The post holder will be practising as an independent specialist clinical practitioner providing patient-centred and evidence-based clinical care, within an agreed scope of competence and practice. The jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care.
The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care, treatment and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources. The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care. The job holder will provide training and education to staff groups, patients and families/carers.
The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to implement and improve the patient pathway and will be expected to develop new skills to further enhance the quality of the service delivered. Where appropriate, the role will include the day to day leadership and management.
. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Leadership
Provide leadership to the clinical team working with Matron, develop new roles/ways of working
Provide a visible clinical lead and role model to the nursing and wider team by delivering high quality compassionate care.
Support staff to provide efficient, effective, safe and quality care to patients as an expert practitioner.
Deliver a positive patient experience.
Support in the delivery of an effective, evidence based, safe, quality service within budgetary envelope.
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of junior clinical staff and students within the specialist team.
Motivate staff in the delivery of quality patient care.
Has responsibility for the line management of the specialist nursing team including recruitment, performance management and workforce planning.
Deliver an effective quality service with budgetary constraints, monitors the delegated budget for the specialist nursing teamwork with the Matron to work towards the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals objectives and service improvement.
Supervise clinical delivery of care competencies.
Anticipate problems and take preventative or mitigating actions or have contingency plans available.
Investigate and respond to accidents, complaints, untoward incidents and other significant events.
Ensures that workload and performance monitoring data for the team is collected, collated, and utilised to ensure the effective and efficient working of the team. Reviews this information with Matron on a regular basis.
Work with the Matron in the development of specific elements of nursing practice, reflecting the CSU and Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals business plans.
Engage users and carers views on service delivery and development.
Propose, develop and implement policy, protocols and practice guidelines specific to the clinical specialty.
Exercises a personal duty of care in relation to equipment, resource and stock control utilising equipment and supplies appropriately.
Clinical
Provide high quality care as an expert practitioner and act as a role model and resource for advice, support, and guidance.
Provides specialised advice contributing to the diagnosis and care of patients.
Where appropriate to the services patient demographic, to developmentally appropriate, young person friendly healthcare to support young people; including support for transition, as they move from children into adult services between the ages 11-25 years.
Responsibility for ensuring setting, monitoring, and seeking to continuously improve standards and the quality of patient care.
Undertake clinical procedures where dexterity and accuracy are required.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and treatments using specialist clinical knowledge and clinical skills.
Make clinical assessments and treatment decisions within clearly defined policies and protocols.
Organises own clinical workload.
Undertake duties on wards or departments as and when required by service demands or patient need.
Supervise clinical staff to promote the delivery of excellent clinical standards.
Receives supervision of clinical care and outcomes from nurse specialist team leader.
Act in accordance with the relevant professional code i.e. NMC.
Fulfil the requirements as directed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to maintain and revalidate registration.
Ensure and promote the maintenance of a safe, clean and secure working environment
Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to, the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust (LTHT) safeguarding policies.
Raise concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHT Whistleblowing policy and supporting processes.
Ensure that documentation standards are maintained in accordance with NMC and LTHT guidelines, whether written or computerised.
Promote and maintain positive working relationships between all staff, internal and external to the Trust, involved in the care of patients.
Maintains accurate clinical and other records using the LTHTs documentation.
Support patients and their families, communicating sensitive condition related information, ensuring they receive required information to enable them to participate in their care delivery.
Deliver complex information to patients and staff.
Liaise with external health providers and other agencies (as appropriate) to ensure seamless provision of care delivery.
Quality Improvement & Research
Improve the quality and safety of our services by being proactive in promoting and supporting the Leeds Improvement Method.
Participate in quality improvement programmes as required.
Keep up to date with and communicate service developments, advances, and research.
Through the use of audit, local research, metrics and feedback continually seek to identify practice that needs improvement. Implement and evaluate any resultant improvement plan.
Actively promote patient involvement and feedback within service improvements to promote a positive patient experience
Maintain and sustain the momentum of improvements until they are firmly embedded into the values and culture of the clinical area.
Undertake audit programmes specific to client group, treatments, and developments.

Education and Training

Provides specialist training and education at post-graduate level within the University settings as agreed with Matron.
Undertake role specific training and competencies.
Provide education and training to patients and their carers.
Keep up to date with developments, advances within the specialty.
Collaborate with other members of the team in clinical areas and departments to ensure that the provision of education and training is clear and robust.
Mentorship and supervision of junior staff.
Participate in specialist national, regional, and local conferences as agreed with Matron. Support staff to deliver evidence-based practice and research activities to further enhance patient care.
Undertake mandatory and priority training within the required time scales
