In addition to hands-on maintenance work, the post-holder will supervise and mentor apprentices, assist in materials requisitions, and facilitate effective communication regarding progress and delays to the customer. The technician is expected to collaborate within the maintenance team to propose improvements in policies and procedures, maintaining strict records to meet operational and statutory requirements. The role offers the flexibility to organize daily work while ensuring responsiveness and customer care in delivering maintenance services.
As a Trust we are investing in the Estates Engineering infrastructure primarily in our mechanical & electrical engineering systems to provide the foundation for the Trust to achieve significant carbon reductions through the introduction of new renewable technologies.
The post holder will be employed to undertake maintenance work which will be routine and varied in nature and will include reactive work and planned preventative maintenance.
To ensure the optimum level of performance, safety and availability of the Trust's Estate and associated infrastructure and building services.
The post-holder will problem solve complex technical issues whilst undertaking breakdown repairs, planned maintenance and upgrade work and a diverse range of building services to a technical level across both mechanical and electrical services.
Instruct others on the above features and other aspects of their work.
Perform a wide range of work to include other maintenance disciples.
Be available to work additional hours as required.
Provide out of hours call out cover on a rota basis and where necessary
provide cover when there are gaps in the on-call rota.
The post-holder will use permit to works, risks assessments, orders, job documentation etc and complete them accurately and timely.
The post-holder will take reasonable care for their acts or omissions and work in a safe manner at all times
Maintain emergency / contingency systems to support critical services and minimise disruption to the normal operation of the hospital during emergency situations.
To test new or existing equipment and engineering systems to verify safety and operation.

Diagnose and repair faults on a wide range equipment, services and systems which are complex in nature.
Promote and develop a culture of responsiveness, ownership and customer care within the team which delivers a responsive breakdown and planned preventative maintenance service.
Maintain emergency / contingency systems to support critical services and minimise disruption to the normal operation of the hospital during emergency situations.
To test new or existing equipment and engineering systems to verify safety.
Instruct other on the above features and other aspects of their work.

Act as Competent Person as necessary and maintain strict records of Engineering systems to meet operational, statutory requirements & HTM Standards.
Organise materials requisitions and assist in purchasing where required.
Keep the customer and helpdesk appraised of work at all times, including feedback on progress and delays to works affecting the customer.
Investigate and promote new working practices within the team to provide more efficient and customer responsive service .
The post-holder will be able to interrogate and utilise the information from the building management system, fire system and other engineering computer systems.
Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work.
Comply with all current Health & Safety legislation and attend training as instructed.

Communication:
The postholder will communicate complex technical issues and solutions to other technical staff and contractors, and will be able to communicate technical information in layperson terms.
People/Management Excellence:
The postholder will supervise and provide mentoring to apprentices, maintenance assistants, contractors and other staff.
Planning and Organising:
The postholder will be allocated work but will have the freedom to organise their work on a day-to-day basis, which includes liaising with the customer to provide minimum disruption.
Policy / Service Development:
The postholder will work collaboratively within the maintenance team to propose changes policy procedures and guidance which are applicable the Estates department.
