Band 8b: £62,215 to £72,293 a year per annum  PERMANENT 

The Head of Health and Safety is a key role within the South Western Ambulance Service, leading the H&S team to ensure that the organisation remains compliant and our colleagues are kept safe. The role works within the Clinical Directorate, with a really supportive Deputy Director and Director, who are both committed to driving forward the H&S agenda.

Over recent years H&S has seen a significant focus within the organisation, working to improve compliance and embed H&S as everyone's responsibility.

The post holder will have professional and technical responsibility for the day-to-day management of the H&S department. This includes the formation and implementation of Trust H&S strategy, policy, H&S management systems and objectives.

The department provides competent and technical advice,guidanceand support to the Trust in meeting its statutory duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all associatedregulatory requirements.

The role includes the full remit of assessing non-clinical hazards and risks; suggesting suitable remedial solutions and actions to control and manage those risks; escalating significant risks up through the Trust's governance structure; monitoring, auditing and reviewing those risks; and providing overall assurance on these matters up to, and including Board level, in a timely manner.

The post holder will assist in further developing the culture of safe working practices, carry out periodic audits of health and safety management systems and provide analyses of health and safety records and reports in order to advise on the development and implementation of safe systems of work and system improvements.

The post holder will liaise and work closely with diverseclinical and non-clinical groups. This includes senior managers, the recognised Trade Union and its Safety Representatives and all other levels of staff within the organisation.
